We Should All Make It.

by Katriona MacMillan

Just stay alive another minute

That’s all you need to do.

If you can manage another minute

Then you’ll maybe manage two.

A minute will become an hour

If you leave it long enough

Hours turn to days, days become weeks,

Weeks, eventually, will turn into months.

Because how you feel in this exact minute

Is going to go away.

If it’s anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed

This too will pass – given enough days.

And we should all make it

But not all of us know how.

The difficult trick is to let it pass

and be stubborn enough to stick around.

So stay with us for another minute

That’s all anyone will ask.

And if you manage just one more?

Then you’ve got this in the bag.

This poem will be part of the Weekday Poetry Series when the book is finished.

In the meantime, there are two types of people in this world. There are those who will understand what it means, and there are those who will never truly understand what it means. If you are the first, then I’m sorry. Feel free to bookmark, copy, share, or return to this as you need it. My only request is that you give me credit as the creator. I hope it helps.
