Turning My Hand to Poetry

The Weekday Poetry Series by Katriona MacMillan is now available in the Amazon store.

I have had a lifelong love of poetry. My favourite has always been “Bagpipe Music” by Louis MacNeice. Scotland has some pretty spectacular poets but there is one which stands out always and that is Rabbie Burns, the bard hissel’.

I started writing poems at fourteen as an angsty teenager. None of those poems made it into this book.

“The Weekday Poetry Series” is a chapbook of sorts. It has poems on one half of the spread and thoughts behind the poems on the other half. Readers have described it as a collection of thoughts with poetry in between. I have heard it said that it is not like the poetry books you get in school. I think that was a compliment.

The whole point in the poems contained within “The Weekday Poetry Series” are aimed at being ordinary. Not in the sense of ordinary work, of course, (I am the author, I have to say that it’s good) but in the sense that I wanted to prove that poetry can be found in the little moments of life… like being too sick to do the dishes or celebrating Christmas.

This poetry book focuses on memories, life’s little struggles, and dealing with grief. Normal things given an abnormal focus, if you like.

When is the new Dark Science Book being released?

I am currently working on “Lavender”, part 6 or 7 of Dark Science? I really ought to know that. The story is almost finished. After Lavender will come Oleander, and after Oleander the title is yet to be confirmed but again, it is underway.

The Stone Circle
